The shard, by Renzo Piano, is located at London Bridge station and is already a dominant element of the London skyline. Of all the recent towers I’ve seen, this one seems to express ‘towerness’ most convincingly. The tectonic of the sliding skin fragments carries your eye upward to the tip. The base awkwardly punctures the context below but the fragments enhance the collision. The last two images show parts of a hospital renovation project nearby.
